5 Inexpensive Home Organizing Workhorse Products

There are certain organizing products that I use over and over and in many different areas of my home. These items are not expensive but can often be found cheaper at stores like HomeGoods and TJ Maxx.

The first item is…drum roll please…the over the door hook or hooks. You can find them all over Amazon, At Home Store, The Container Store, Bed Bath and Beyond, Wayfair, Target, and other big box stores. They come in all finishes – bronze, chrome, white, black. They also come with varying numbers of hooks – 1 hook, 2 hooks, even 10 hooks! Some hangers even have shelves! Check these out on Amazon.

I currently have over the door hooks on all of our bedroom doors, laundry room door, and closet doors in my home. My kids have used these in their dorm rooms on the backs of doors and on their wardrobe doors. I’ve even used single hooks on their dorm bed footboards so they could hang their backpacks on them.

The next organizing workhorse is…you guessed it…the basket! Baskets are both functional and decorative. What more could you ask for? They come in all different types of materials – sea grass, woven, willow, wicker – just to name a few. I love rope baskets as well. And baskets add much needed texture to a space. And you can use them for anything! I have baskets near my front door that hold shoes and flip flops. I have a large basket next to my couch where I store afghans and throws. I have small baskets on my coffee table that hold remotes and overhead fan clickers. I also have a cute rope basket in my front hall to store my dog’s leash and poop bags. Baskets can be used in closets to store cleaning supplies, toiletries, sheets, and other items. And baskets can be used in pantries to store snacks and food as well. The possibilities are endless! The tray is another amazing organizing product! One of my favs! Trays corral objects and make your space less visually cluttered. I use trays in the kitchen for coffee essentials and my paper towel holder. I use trays on all of my coffee tables and put decorative items in them such as candles and lanterns, as well as functional items like remotes. I use trays in bedrooms on night stands to contain my bedside essentials: book, glasses, moisturizer, eye mask, phone charger. I have trays in all of my kids’ bedrooms as well. And just like baskets, trays come in all styles (modern, country, rustic), colors, and materials (woven, metal) to fit your space. Check out this one: Walmart

The next item is the over the door clear shoe organizer, or over the door shelving unit. We have a small closet in our hallway upstairs and I put an over the door clear shoe organizer from Walmart in there to house bathroom cleaners, extra toothpaste, sponges, trash bags, microfiber cloths, toilet cleaner, and extra shampoo and conditioner. I also used this in my kids’ dorm rooms to store lint rollers, batteries, cords, extra toiletries and cleaners. You can truly use them for storing any small items when space is limited in your home. And if you install them behind a closed door, no one can see it! It’s a beautiful thing! Check out this organizer from Amazon: Shoe Organizer

The last item that can really help you organize, and is relatively inexpensive, is the spring-loaded drawer divider. You can also use the fabric bins from Ikea to divide your clothes as well. Are you tired of messy drawers….t-shirts in disarray? I was. these handy plastic drawer dividers are the best. I use them in my underwear drawer to divide up my undies and bras (hope that’s not TMI for you!). And no, I do NOT fold my underwear and put them in those tiny little honeycomb fabric boxes….those are a little too OCD for me! But I do use the fabric bins to divide my underwear and bras. I use these dividers and bins in my kids’ rooms as well…it kinda helps to keep their folded clothes organized. Although sometimes they just fling their t-shirts in there (ugh). At least they are not on the floor. You can only do so much (throwing up my hands here!). Check out this drawer divider here: Amazon
